I can really relate to this song!!! I have been put in the same situation!!! I chose my new love!!! Reason is because he put my feeling first and would never make me make a promise like that and we have been married for almost 8 months now,and i still got LOVE ALL OVER ME!!! I feel the right ending was chosen. Not because of Shannon's looks or money/status. But, because the reality is, you and your first love are not the same people you were years ago. What you knew in 1995, is not what you know now in 2010. People grow and change, you mature. And who's to say Maino turned into a person that you would like now. For all you know, he could've picked up some bad habbits all that time. He could've turned into an abusive person, an emotionally cold person. Not to mention, prison can warp you in all kinds of ways. The list goes on.

Besides, if you look at the video, both Maino and Monica moved on. When Maino is in the bed scenes, it's not Monica, it's a new girl (that resemble's Keyshia Cole LOL). He's with somebody else as well, in the future scenes. The only time Mo is seen with Maino in the future events is when the relationship is being reminisced on in the past. Anyway, my point is, hey, you move on with your life. It's not even realistic, to act as though you're just going to drop this whole new life that you've settled into, for the past 12 years, with another person. No, you're not going to do that, just because your first love/old love shows up after all this time. That's not realistic. Not to mention, it's not fair to the person you are with in the present, to hurt them and string them along all that time for nothing. It doesn't even make sense.

I'm in Monica's age range. And the people I use to hang with, I no longer hang with. The people I use to date, I wouldn't now. Not because they were bad people, but because you grow and mature, and basically start living a new life. Monica herself, has grown and matured to become a better woman today. Monica is 30 years old, with two beautiful children. A whole new outlook on life. In real life, I'm sure Ms. Arnold wouldn't trade in what she has now, for what she did in 1995.

With that being said. I'm glad Shannon was chosen. Hey, I like Maino too. But that doesn't mean I can't have anything in common with a Shannon Brown. I'm sure Ms. Monica can relate to a Shannon as well. Not just a Maino type. I understand and know that first loves are special, and they will always have a time capsil moment in your life. But you let it go and move on, because of who you are becoming in the future. Everything happens for a reason. There's a reason Maino didn't make it to the Shannon stage.

Anyway, he told her not to wait for him so she didn't. She moved on. And so did Maino. He had a present relationship as well. But you guys were so caught up in who you liked better, that you didn't really look at the actual storyline. With that being said, I feel the right choice was made with Shannon. Not because of looks or status. But because it speaks to the maturity Monica and her fans are today.

The right choice was made at the end of the day. My reasoning for this is that Monica does not know the intentions of the old guy. She might have known him 12 years ago but people change. Nobody is the same person they were 12 years ago. We all mature and that's what she did. There is no telling how long Monica and the new love have been together...for all we know they could have been together for years...we dont know. All we know is that Monica and the new guy love each other and he won her heart. Great job Monica!!!!! I loved the whole concept. I think what we all can learn from the video is that you should be careful with what you say and wish for. If you tell someone not to wait on you, dont expect them to be there when you come back. Choose your words wisely and follow your heart. I believe Monica's character in the video did. It's ok to reflect on the past because you learn why its the past. You live and learn.

I am so mad because its not the ending I was hoping for but its just a video. Following your heart is what's important rather its with your old or new love. Reading the previous comments a lot of people took this video personal. One thing about it we are all human and entitled to make our own mistakes in life and being with who ever make you happy.
